Delegate Tour A 

8.00 AM - 12.00 MD (20 Delegates only)

Visit Lucinda Build Sugar Terminal (longest sugar loading facility in the world-5.7 kms into the ocean.  The tour will take you through sugar sheds and you will travel out to the offshore loading area in the Great Barrier Reef lagoon area), view Hinchinbrook Island Channel from Dungess, visit Lucinda Beach and view a sugar milling operation (Victoria Mill - the largest sugar mill in Australia).  The tour is optional and you must nominate when registering.


Delegate Tour B

13.00 PM - 17.00 PM (20 Delegates only)

Visit Wallaman Falls, located in the UNESCO World Heritage Rainforest.  You will travel through cane farms, grazing land, pine plantations, rainforest and open Eucalypt forests along the way.  The tour is optional and you must nominate when registering.  Sponsored by Wilmar Sugar





12th September Tuesday

Option 1 - As sweet as Sugar

Visit to the Herbert dryland sugarcane growing region to view first hand agricultural extension services in action, with a focus on production and natural resource management (limited to 50 attendants).  Lunch at Ingham.  Departure time from The Ville, Townsville 8.00 am/Tyto Conference Centre, Ingham 9.30 am and return 5.30 pm into Townsville.  Sponsored by Wilmar Sugar



Option 2  -  Irrigated Agriculture

Visit the Burdekin Irrigation Area.  View first hand agriculture extension services in sugarcane, rice, pulse crops and horticulture  (limited to 50 attendants). Lunch at Ayr or Brandon.  Departure time from The Ville, Townsville 8.30 am and return 5.00 pm.




Option 3  -  Natural Resource Management

Visit the Hinchinbrook Shire region to view first hand a Landcare project at Insulator Creek, feral pig management, activities in the Herbert sugarcane area specific to NRM management and (limited to 50 attendants).  Departure time 8.00 am/Tyto Conference Centre and return 5.30 pm into Townsville.  Sponsored by Wilmar Sugar.



Option 4  - Extension and the Great Barrier Reef

Visit the Australian Institute of Marine Science (south of Townsville) and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (limited to 20 attendants).  Departure time from Ville, Townsville 8.30 am and return 12 pm.  Lunch venue TBA.



Option 5 -  Extension in grazing

Visit grazing properties to view first hand extension activities in this industry (limited to 25 attendants).  Departure time from Ville, Townsville 8.30 am and return 5.30 pm.  Lunch venue TBA.



Option 6  -  Education and Health

Tropical Public Health Unit (TPHU) in Townsville and James Cook University (limited to 15 attendants).  Lunch in Townsville.  Departure time from Ville, Townville 9.00 am and return 12 pm.  Sponsored by JCU.



Option 7  - Going Bananas

Visit a banana farm and Qld Boating & Fisheries in the Kennedy and Cardwell areas.  View first hand agricultural extension and biosecurity services in action in bananas and operation activities associated with fisheries (limited to 25 attendants). Depart 8.30 am Tyto Conference Centre, Ingham and return 6.00 pm into Townsville.  Lunch venue TBA.



Option 8 -  Gone Troppo

Visit to the Herbert dryland sugarcane, melon and pineapple farming.  View first hand agricultural extension servies in action, with a focus on production and technology (limited to 50 attendants).  Lunch at TBA.  Depature time from Ville, Townsville 8.30 am and return 3 pm.
